CSUK National Conference
NATIONAL CONFERENCE 2007
The 13th Christian Surfers UK National Conference was a huge success and was held at its traditional venue - Warcombe Farm, Mortehoe, North Devon over the weekend of June 22nd – 24th 2007.
Our official limit for attendance was 150, but we were delighted to see a number of additional faces over the weekend making this the largest ever National Conference. This time we were also very privileged to be joined by 15 of our brothers and sisters from CS Holland. They really played a key part in the weekend and we thank them for travelling across the water.
We really do believe that God was really with us with regards to the weather. As you know from Glastonbury, they were pretty much washed-out. However, although we had rain during the sessions and overnight, when we needed it dry, the BBQ, setting up, pulling down, it was completely dry - praise God!
This year’s speaker was Andy Frost from Share Jesus International, who has quite a reputation on the speaking circuit, and is also a Trustee of Christian Surfers UK. He spoke on the challenge and the cost of mission and our relationship with Jesus.
Saturday night proved to be an amazing evening with Andy Gardner, as well as many others, sharing about their lives and their calling through Christian Surfers. During that session all those who felt they wanted to (nearly everyone!) stood up, when we prayed to “raise the bar” and then came forward for prayer. In addition, a number of people committed their lives to Jesus for the first time.
As for the surf, typically for a National Conference, the best surf was on the day before the Conference, although most people got in the water on Saturday. At 7.00am there was a particularly poignant time with over 35 joining the paddle circle in memory of Chris Scott, our beloved Treasurer of 17 years who sadly passed away recently. Hands were held, prayers were said, and petals scattered in the middle of the circle, a truly touching moment.
This summer there will be numerous missions and all the latest information can be found on our website - www.christiansurfers.co.uk.
We also have a real focus this year in our search for someone to join the staff full time to assist Phil Williams as he directs the organisation. Please do continue to pray about this issue. We got great feedback from the Conference with possible candidates registering a willingness to consider the situation.
Despite the huge sadness at the loss of Chris and the funeral on the Friday, we felt that God was encouraging us to push on, and to up the anti and to continue to practice what we preach by being “a Christian presence and witness in the UK surfing community”.
A big thanks for all those who attended, especially those who had to travel long distances to join us from around the UK and Ireland, as well as some from further a field i.e. Holland and Brazil
Once again we thank God for His amazing provision. We thank the South Wales team for all the work they put into helping to organise the event, which took much of the workload from Phil and Annie’s backs.
We know that the legacy left by Chris is that Christian Surfers UK is in good hands and is making a difference to the surfing community around us.
Let’s keep praying. Keep expecting God to do miracles. Let’s just watch how Christian Surfers UK develops and changes “red dots to green”.
