CS Ireland Conference
The weekend of 3rd – 5th October, saw an amazing 80 plus delegates to the 4th Christian Surfers Ireland Conference, held at Spanish Point, in County Clare. Christian Surfers Ireland is a mission’s organization passionate about Surfing, and a relationship with Jesus.
Surfers, and those interested in surf ministry travelled from all corners of Ireland, to attend the event, from Portrush in the North, Cork in the South, Dublin in the East, to Lahinch in the West. The visiting speaker Phil Pechonis, a pastor originating from Florida spoke on the importance of using the gifts that God has given us, and a challenge to make a step up to go harder for God. The teaching was supplemented by updates of the work of Christian Surfers International, who are active in 24 countries, by Phil Williams head of Christian Surfers Europe. It was inspiring to hear about some of the amazing stories from around the world, of God using surf ministry. Worship was led by a great band from ‘Open Arms’, Newbridge.
The conference was titled ‘Taking it to the next level’, which for Christian Surfers Ireland at the moment is a very apt title, as their leader Steve Boal, and his life Leslie have just moved down to Lahinch (County Clare) in order to move into full ministry with Surfers, and hence take the missions activity to the next level. It’s a huge step for the couple as they have left their plumbing business in Letterkenny (Donegal) to live by faith.
Christian Surfers have been active for around 8 years reaching out to Surfers around the Irish Coast, and have seen lifes changed in some amazing waves. They aim to be ‘A Christian presence and witness in the surfing population around Ireland’. Local church partnerships are, and will be key to the ongoing expansion of the group.
