Jesus Surf Classic

Jesus Surf Classic, 14th year of running
Croyde Bay, 9-10 September  2006

Croyde Bay once again hosts the Jesus Surf Classic, over the weekend of 9th –10th September. This hugely successful event has now been running for fourteen years.. This year’s event looks like being the biggest ever, with a slight change in the categories. We will be introducing a new event for the women with a new category for the Junior women (Under 18’s) This is based on feedback received over the last couple of years and the growth in young girl surfers coming through the ranks, which we wanted to encourage.

This surf contest is organised and run by Christian Surfers UK, and this year there is over £2,000 of prize money on offer, between the 9 categories, with the open surfing winner receiving £250. With last year’s event being over subscribed with over 160 entries, contestants are being advised this year to get their entry forms in early

As before, over 100 Christian Surfers helpers from around the country will be involved in organising the weekend, making it as pleasurable as possible.  There will be a skate park, marquee, BBQ and large screen movies. There will be a skateboard competition on Saturday and Sunday afternoon in the new and improved skate park built specifically for the event.  We are looking forward to seeing even more skaters coming down to get involved with this.

The standard of surfing as always will be very high, with Joss Ash looking to retain his men’s open title, but it is also a great opportunity for those wishing to enter their first competition to get involved.

Unfortunately the body boarding categories has been withdrawn this year. This was a tough decision, but we felt that we’d like to try and focus on trying to assist the British Body Boarding Association, or run our own event specific to this group, as the numbers in bodyboarding at the Jesus Surf Classic have been traditionally fairly low.

To enter the event either pick up an entry form from your local Surf Shop, or checkout the website or e-mail for a form.

As a new innovation this year we have agreed a 2-½ special rate for the campsite with Parkdean Holidays for competitors and their supporters.  This means that no one has to leave their pitch by 10.00am on Sunday morning.  When booking your camping mention the special deal and get the special rate.

The Jesus Surf Classic has become one of the biggest and longest running surf contests in the UK, and Christian Surfers UK are once again very much looking forward to hosting it at what is one of the best breaks on the North Coast, Croyde Bay.
