CS International Fundraiser - A fantastic Success
27th May 2011
Initial Christian Surfers International fund raiser evening, a fantastic success
The ‘Source cafe’ on May 19th, in Newquay Cornwall hosted the 1st ever Christian Surfers International fundraiser event. A sell out event saw 46 smartly dressed members and friends sit down for a delicious meal served by Tiva and the team at this Surf Themed Café. Live music was provided by Kat Pierce.
Christian Surfers simple aim is to be a ‘Christian presence and witness to the entire surfing community’, and has been working in the UK for nearly 20 years.
Following the meal, there were speeches by Brett Davis (Founder and head of CS International), Phil Williams (Head of CS Europe) and Dave Reed, Head of the UK Pro Tour illustrating the benefits of the partnership with Christian Surfers UK, the surf focussed charity.
Brett Davis talked about the work of CS in over 30 countries world-wide, and some of the exciting plans for the future, including the world tour Chaplaincy project, the Japanese relief work and Surfers Bibles’ project. Brett currently lives near Sydney (Australia) and was only in the UK for a few days.
Christian Surfers works alongside numerous National surfing bodies, in order to help develop the sport of surfing, share their faith of the creator of the waves, as well running their own extensive programs, including high profile surf contests, skateboard events, surf camps and regional gatherings.
Following the meal, the well known voice of UK Pro Surf Tour commentary, Nick Williams, cleverly directed the Charity Auction, and between the 20+ auction items, over £1200 was raised. Items included, skateboards, clothing, shoes, amazing art work, holiday breaks, but perhaps the star attractions of the event, were a Double Dee fish donated by ‘nineplus’, and a pair of hand crafted and decorated 7ft Alaia surfboards, shaped by Brett Davis himself.
