Jesus Surf Classic - Update 6th Sep
6th September 2010
With a good swell prediction, the 18th running of the Jesus Surf Classic looks like being another top class event. (Croyde Bay, 11 - 12 September 2010)
With a forecast of plenty of swell forecast, increased prize money, and an additional category, the 18th running of the Jesus Surf Classic looks all set to be another top class Surf and Skate festival. The ĎJesusí comes to its North Devon home once again, over the weekend of 11th Ė 12th September with a new Groms (U12) division, and the mobile Skatepark.
The event is organised and run by Christian Surfers UK and this year there is over £1600 of prize money to be shared between the eight categories, with the Open menís surfing champion receiving £300. Last yearís event was over-subscribed with over 130 entries so contestants are being advised to get their entry forms in early.
As an acknowledgement of the increasing number of young surfers coming through, and to encourage their development, the event for the 1st time will be holding a Groms (U12) division. All competitors this year will also be getting a limited edition DVD of eight of the most recent Jesus Surf Classic contests, as well as a contest T-shirt. It all promises to be a great weekend.
With last yearís defending menís (Stuart Campbell), and womenís (Tassy Swallow) champions both confirmed for this year, the competition looks like being pretty fierce. There are still a few places left, but competitors are encouraged to get any outstanding entry forms in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
As before, over 100 Christian Surfers volunteers from around the country will be involved in organising the weekend, making it ideal for competitors, supporters, and of course their families. There will be a skate park, marquee and BBQ, and surf and skate movies will be shown on the large screen throughout the weekend. There will be a Big Move skateboard competition on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the purpose-built skate park. We are looking forward to seeing lots of skaters coming down to this event once again.
Whilst the standard of surfing throughout the competition is pretty high, due to the events friendly nature, it is also a great opportunity for those wishing to enter their first competition to get involved.
The organisers have agreed a 2Ĺ day special rate for the Ruda campsite with Parkdean Holidays for competitors and their supporters. This means that you can stay on your pitch for all of Sunday. When booking your camping pitch, mention that you are a competitor and get the special rate. We are grateful once again to Parkdean Holidays for their support.
The Jesus Surf Classic has become one of the biggest and longest running surf contests in the UK, and Christian Surfers UK are once again very much looking forward to hosting it at one of the best beach breaks on the North Coast, Croyde Bay.
To enter the event check out the website www.christiansurfers.co.uk and download a form.
Also look out for the Jesus Longboard Classic which will be running on October 16-17 and will consist of Open, Womenís, and Masterís and Junior categories.
This stand-alone contest, which has been running since 2007, will be held at Polzeath, North Cornwall.
