Press Release - Jesus Surf Series – A big weekend of competition October 17 - 18 2009
8th October 2009
With just over one week to go, organisers of the Jesus Surf Series are getting ready for perhaps their biggest weekend of surf events ever. Not only are they running the second part of the Jesus Surf Classic at Croyde bay, but they are also organising the third running of the Jesus Longboard Classic at Polzeath at the same time.
The Croyde event sees nearly 100 competitors take part in the remaining four divisions of the 17th Jesus Surf Classic, the Open, Juniors (U18) , Masters (Over 35’s) and the Ladies Open. Whilst most places are full, there are still a few remaining places in each division. If interested in entering, download your entry form from www.christiansurfers.co.uk and send it off as soon as possible. Big thanks to RNLI, Baggy Lodge, and Parkdean Holidays for their support of this event
With the running of the 3rd Jesus Longboard Classic in Polzeath, North Cornwall, expectations are high after the success of the last two years. With the event gaining in popularity, it is hoped this year’s event will be the best yet. It’s a great contest to enter even for those who have not entered a competition before. The Jesus Surf Series has a well deserved reputation for its friendly atmosphere and all round good vibe, as well as in later rounds being really competitive.
Christian Surfers UK are very pleased to be partnering again with Tubestation www.tubestation.org and Nineplus www.nineplus.com , a company synonymous with Longboarding based just outside Newquay. This year two new partners, local brands Surfs Up! www.surfsupsurfschool.com and Wavehunters www.wavehunters.co.uk are also supporting the event. Combining the resources of these organisations should make for a top class competition.
The Christian Surfers Longboard community has developed their own dedicated event to enlarge the entry numbers and increase the number of categories being contested. This year there are four categories, Open, Womens, Junior (U18) and Masters (over 35). Last year the event attracted some of the UK’s top longboarders with the Men's Open event being won by Adam Griffiths, and the women’s champion being Candice O’Donnell.
Polzeath Beach is ideal for longboarding, and no matter what the weather conditions the surfers will be well looked after at the event HQ ‘Tubestation‘- Polzeath’s unique “surf lounge”.
Contest Director Phil Williams, head of Christian Surfers UK said that “Holding both contests on the same weekend will be a real challenge, but with the great team of volunteers from around the country, I am sure we will pull off two great events. We wanted to keep the Longboard event separate, and avoid clashes with other major events, so this was the best solution. At both events of the ‘Jesus Surf Series’, there’ll be some great hospitality for the competitors, as well as prize money between the two, of well over £2,000, with first place in both Open events winning £250. Standards each year continue to rise, and we are looking forward to hosting many of the UK’s top surfers at both events”
Entry forms can be downloaded from www.christiansurfers.co.uk - or watch out for posters and entry forms in surf shops near you.
