Jesus Surf Classic entries filling up fast
Croyde Bay, 12 - 13 September 2009
With over 90 competitors already entered, the ‘Jesus’ which is held over the weekend of 12 –13 September looks like once again reaching its capacity for entrants. Arrangements are well advanced for this Surf, Skate contest weekend. Croyde Bay once again hosts this hugely successful event, which has been running for 17 years and this year’s competition looks like being another great event.
The Jesus Surf Classic is organised and run by Christian Surfers UK and this year there is over £1500 of prize money to be shared between the eight categories, with the Open surfing winner receiving £250. Last year’s event was over-subscribed with over 150 entries so contestants are being advised to get their entry forms in early.
As before, over 100 Christian Surfers volunteers from around the country will be involved in organising the weekend, making it as pleasurable as possible. There will be a skate park, marquee and BBQ, and surf and skate movies will be shown on the large screen throughout the weekend. There will be a Big Move skateboard competition on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the purpose-built skate park. We are looking forward to seeing lots of skaters coming down to this event once again.
The standard of surfing is always very high, with Bude local, Joss Ash, winning the Men’s event last year, and Swansea’s Beth Mason taking victory in the Women’s. However, it is also a great opportunity for those wishing to enter their first competition to get involved.
We have agreed a 2½ day special rate for the Ruda campsite with Parkdean Holidays for competitors and their supporters. This means that you can stay on your pitch for all of Sunday. When booking your camping pitch, mention that you are a competitor and get the special rate. We are grateful once again to Parkdean Holidays for their support.
The Jesus Surf Classic has become one of the biggest and longest running surf contests in the UK, and Christian Surfers UK are once again very much looking forward to hosting it at one of the best beach breaks on the North Coast, Croyde Bay.
To enter the event either pick up an entry form from your local surf shop, or check out the website www.christiansurfers.co.uk. Any further updates will be posted on the website, with a final decision on Thursday 10th PM if surf conditions look unfavourable.
Also look out for the Jesus Longboard Classic which will be running on October 17-18 and will have Open, Women’s, Masters and Junior categories.
This stand-alone contest, which has been running since 2007, will be held at Polzeath, North Cornwall.
