Report on Christian Surfers International Conference - St FRancis Bay, South Africa
I have just returned from the CS International Conference at St Francis Bay, South Africa with a group of 12 or so from Christian Surfers Europe. This was once again a time of huge encouragement to all attending and I believe a launch pad for new initiatives not just throughout Europe, but also the rest of the world.
With over 150 people from 20 or so nations - including mums, dads, fathers, daughters - pastors, photographers, industry players - all of which were focussed on telling the Jesus story to surfers. Some were from established nations with national missions, others were the first to attend from that nation, some were from missions to far off lands, others from the local board riders club down the beach.
Some had to keep their links to the Organisation a secret because if it got out their lives might be endangered.
All were in love with Jesus and had a passion to outreach to their community.
As well as the traditional reports and international theme days, we were blessed with some amazing speakers including Terran Williams who came to Christ through one of Roy Harley’s outreach slots 15 years ago. Terran is now a powerful evangelist in South Africa and was a great speaker particularly about preaching the Gospel, and the power and steps of that to surfers. Shane Claiborne, author of a number of books was also able to speak through to many. He is a prophet to a church who is economically segregated and had forgotten the poor - a humble man with a gentle spirit, but a fire and a passion and love for Christ. Many friends and colleagues there were hit in an amazing way by his challenges to do community. www.thesimpleway.org
From the gallery you’ll see some of the photos as if by ‘chance’ God opened up an amazing play ground called ‘Supertubes’, J Bay, for one of the best swells for 2-3 months. The most important thing for me from the Conference is some of the things that we will be focusing on in the next few months, as we continue to hear God’s heart beat for Christian Surfers in Europe - exciting times.
Please continue to pray for our work and keep an eye out on the events page www.christiansurfers.co.uk and consider getting involved. Please also pray for Steve and Lesley Boal as they transition into full time CS work in Ireland.
Thanks for your prayers - an amazing trip - God is good!
