UK Pro Surf Tour hits Widemouth
27th August 2007
The August bank holiday weekend saw the UK Pro Surf Tour continue its coverage around the country, and for the first time it took the Hot Tuna (Summer of 69) contest to Widemouth Bay, North Cornwall.
The event moved from St Ives largely for logistical reasons and certainly the amount of car parking and the great view over the beach proved the move to Widemouth to be a popular one. Christian Surfers UK in the past has been heavily involved with the Bude Surf Classic, lovated at Widemouth and always found the location ideal.
Christian Surfers UK were asked to get involved, as were Surf Relief UK, and once again the JC donated surfboard signed by 120 WQS surfers was on display and raffle tickets sold. All money is to go to Surf Relief UK.
A big thanks in particular to those who travelled down to help at this event. Ben Hannah from Australia, via Lahinch (Working at John McCarthy’s Surf School) helped out and also competed, getting into the quarter finals – Good on you mate !! Vicky Carver and Katie Giles ran the CS stall and had a great time, able supported by Kevin Hogarth and a few of the CS Bude crew – Thanks guys.
Once again, it was great to be involved with the UK’s top surfers and to build friendships. Via the CS gazebo, it was also good to share about the work of Christian Surfers and Surf Relief UK to the thousands of visitors to Widemouth beach on a great Bank Holiday weekend.
Sam Lamiroy won the mens event, with Aussie Dara Penfold, taking the Womens title. – checkout for a full write up check out www.bpsauktour.com
